Drought, Dust, and Creativity in 1930’s North Dakota

Creativity flourished during the 1930’s around Bismarck-Mandan. New buildings featured unique art projects. Local WPA administrators encouraged live theater, original ceramics, a new guide book for North Dakota, and the creation of delightful costume dolls. Exquisite Lakota bead and quill work was created. Susan Wefald will share findings and photos from her new book “Drought, Dust, and Creativity – the American Scene in 1930’s North Dakota.”
